Native American Blessing

I was looking for a Native American reference in response to a reader’s email request, and in the process I ran across this wonderful parable, supposedly originally from the Cherokee nation. It’s one of my favorites.
I love it for it’s simplicity and poignancy so I thought I’d share it.

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.

“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.” The one you feed.”

Two Wolves

Which of your wolves do you wish to  feed every day? I’ts a very good question to keep in mind as you rise. Take just a few minutes to focus on how you wish your energy to flow, how you want your day and the activities in it to go. You will be amazed at how either wolf will come to the fore as you pre-pave it’s way with food– your energy and where you put it.

Blessings,

Dr. John
